Curl, is entering his third season with the Jets and his first as assistant to the Head Coach. In 2004, he served as the senior offensive assistant/special projects coach with his responsibilities including time management and situational research. He originally joined the Jets as the tight ends coach in March 2003 after spending three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs as a pro personnel assistant

Before joining Kansas City he spent three seasons as the head coach of NFL Europe's Frankfurt Galaxy. Under Curl, the Galaxy won the NFLE championship game, the World Bowl, in ~R99 and also made the League~Rs championship game in ~R98 as Curl was named the coach of the year in both seasons. Curl served as the offensive coordinator of the Barcelona Dragons from 1991-97. The Dragons made a World Bowl appearance in ~R91 before winning the title in 1997.

New York Jets

The New York Jets announced Friday the appointment of John Zernhelt as the Club's tight ends coach and Dick Curl as the assistant to the Head Coach. The announcements were made by New York head Coach Herman Edwards.

Zernhelt, 51, joins the Jets after serving as the Head Coach of the Citadel Bulldogs for the 2004 season. Prior to taking over, at the Citadel, he served as the Bulldogs' offensive coordinator in 2003 and led his unit to a 21.8 points per game average. He was instrumental in the development of tight end Ross Armstrong, tackle Lew Dawson and quarterback Willie Simmons, all named first team All-Southern Conference. Zernhelt has an extensive college coaching background holding jobs at James Madison (99-02), South Carolina (96-98), Duke University (94-95), Rice University (92-93), East Carolina University (87-91), Marshall University (1981) and Ferrum University (77-80).

Prior to joining the coaching ranks, Zernhelt was a standout player with the University of Maryland from 1974-77 and helped the Terrapins to three ACC Championships.
